LASER SURGERY

Surgical procedures are often a necessary part of your pet’s general health care plan. At Animal Hospital of the Crossing, we provide the highest quality surgical care, recovery and pain management for your pet.

Laser Surgery

We offer laser surgery (Co2 laser) whenever possible. A laser is a device that produces an extremely powerful and concentrated beam of light. Unlike traditional surgery with a scalpel or scissors which can bruise or crush tissue, only the laser light beam touches the tissue.

Laser surgery provides the same benefits to pets as human patients: less pain, less bleeding, less infection, less swelling and discomfort after surgery, and the ability to resume normal activities sooner. Laser surgery can be used to make unique bloodless laser incisions, as well as to remove unhealthy tissue such as tumors, without excessive loss of blood typical of conventional scalpel based surgery.

The laser seals small blood vessels as it cuts. The laser ablation is so precise that it can selectively remove only a few cells at a time, and the laser beam seals small blood cells and nerve endings as it cuts, so patients are much more comfortable after treatment. The laser beam kills any bacteria in its path, and also seals lymph nodes, resulting in less post-operative swelling and infection.

Finally, shorter procedures shorten anesthesia time, reducing the risks of anesthesia to your pet.

Some of the surgical procedures we perform are:

All surgical procedures include the latest monitoring equipment and your pet will be monitored during surgery by trained staff. We utilize the most up to date advanced sterilization techniques and our fully-trained veterinary and technical staff will monitor your pet before, during and after their surgical procedure.

Pre-Surgical Care

Prior to surgery, all patients are carefully screened, and anesthetics are specifically tailored to your pet. We recommend pre-surgical blood work so we can evaluate your pet’s kidney, liver and heart function prior to undergoing anesthesia.

Anesthesia and Patient Monitoring

We utilize the safest, multi-modal anesthesia techniques available and provide the same level of patient monitoring that you would receive if you were having surgery. We use ECG monitoring during surgery to monitor your pet’s blood pressure, respiration, heart activity, oxygen saturation and temperature.

Pain Management

Your pet’s pain relief is our top priority. At Animal Hospital of the Crossing, we ensure your pet has minimal pain before, during and after surgery. We utilize multiple therapies to control pain so that your pet is as comfortable as possible until they are fully recovered.
